This easy Guava Margarita (Guavarita) recipe yields a fresh and fruity cocktail that's just as good for a boozy brunch as it is for your next Taco Tuesday or Cinco de Mayo menu.

Margaritas are perhaps my favorite classic cocktail to shake up at home, and easily one of my favorites to order when I'm out. There are countless way to get creative and customize your margaritas. Using guava nectar to create bright, fresh, and tropical guava margaritas is a great way to go.
Guava tastes like a combination of strawberries and pears with a hint of mango. These flavors lend themselves really well to margaritas!
The color not only pops, but the resulting guavarita is so fruity and refreshing that you could likely drink it and not even realize there's alcohol in it. But beware, you'll definitely feel the tequila kick in later.
Ingredient notes
- Guava Nectar: Store-bought guava nectar works great in margaritas, and is a convenient shortcut to using fresh fruit puree. It also provides sweetness, so you shouldn't need simple syrup or agave nectar to sweeten this guavarita. I could only find Goya guava nectar at my local grocery store (in the Latin American foods aisle), so that is what I use in these photos. With that said, I usually avoid Goya guava products if I can because they add red #40 artificial food dye to their nectar and guava paste (and likely other products). If you can find them at your grocery store, or plan ahead enough to order them online, try Iberia guava nectar or Grown Right organic guava nectar. Neither contain artificial dyes, but you can add a few drops of natural red food coloring if you'd like to bump up the color (the Iberia in particular yields a more pale guavarita).
- Limes: Use freshly squeezed lime juice for this guava margarita recipe. Please do not use the bottled stuff. It's just not the same.
- Tequila: It should go without saying that you need tequila to make margaritas. Use your favorite kind!
- Triple Sec: Triple sec is an orange-flavored liqueur which is usually column-distilled with neutral grain spirit. It has a dry quality and is clear in color. An example of a high end triple sec you can use if your budget allows is Cointreau.
How to make it
Wet the rim of a margarita glass or glass tumbler by rubbing a lime wedge around its circumference. Rotate the rim of the glass in kosher salt spread on a flat plate. Fill the glass about halfway with ice cubes.
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine guava nectar, tequila, triple sec, and freshly squeezed lime juice. Shake vigorously, then strain the guava margarita into the prepared glass. Garnish the rim with a lime slice or wedge, if desired. Serve immediately.

Expert tips
Don't like salt rims on your guava margaritas? No problem! Rim your glasses with sugar or nothing at all. A colorful fruity flavored sugar such as this mango cocktail sugar would be delicious as well as color coordinated with the drink.
Although I own multiple cocktail shakers, believe it or not my favorite one to use is this OXO Good Grips Cocktail Shaker. It comes with a jigger cap and built-in strainer in the lid, is double-walled (to insulate so your hands don't get cold), and is just generally easy to use and clean. I've had mine for many many years and have no complaints.

Can this be made into a big batch?!?!
Victoria says
Absolutely! You can multiply the recipe as much as you'd like and make it in a pitcher. Just stir it vigorously with some ice in the pitcher or pour out individual portions as needed into a shaker to shake with ice to serve. Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite margaritas! The ingredients are so easy and perfect. I made this again during a vacation down the cape last week. The simplicity of this cocktail made it so enjoyable and we did not have to buy too many ingredients.
